July 2014 Updates

Just a quick note about current and upcoming actions.

Monday, July 14th:

Support Indigenous Peoples Day!

Idle No More Michigan will make a presentation to the Traverse City Human Rights Commission regarding observing Indigenous Peoples Day, instead of Columbus Day. This has been implemented before, most recently in Minneapolis

The Human Rights Commission meeting will be held on July 14th at 5:30 pm, in the 2nd floor County Committee Room at the Government Center, 400 Boardman, Traverse City, MI.

If you cannot attend, you can contact members of the Commission by email.

Also, please let members of Traverse City Commission know that you support this change. You can contact them, as well as the City Manager and Assistant Manager, by using one email address:  This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Attend Citizens Climate Lobby July Meeting. It is also on Monday, July 14th from 6pm to 8pm. It will be held at the Michigan Land Use Institute at 148 East Front Street, Traverse City.

All are welcome to attend and join us for a light potluck. If you can't bring something to eat, please come anyway!

July actions will be discussed and we'll share our experiences lobbying for carbon fee and dividend legislation in DC last month, Facebook event here.

Tuesday, July 15th:

Voice your opinion on Fracking rules!

This July 15 at 6:30 PM at Treetops Resort in Gaylord, the DEQ will hold a public hearing on proposed rule changes for Hydraulic Fracturing. The most important issue of all is that we show up in large numbers to show the DEQ and the Oil and Gas Industry that we really do care what happens in our state and our communities. There will be a number of qualified speakers from various groups and it is our job to be there in support of them.

Thanks to David Warren, who will act as carpool central. If you need a ride or can drive please call David at (231-946-3083 or 231-632-2243) or email him at David Warren ( This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. ) and he'll do his best to connect riders and drivers.

Lets do this together and in force for a sustainable future. Please tell everyone you know and invite them! Facebook event here.
